Wing span:

Identification: This species is sexually dimorphic. Males are dark brown on the upperside with red from mid to dorsum of the forewings, excepting the outer postdiscal and submarginal regions, and from postbasal to outer postdiscal regions on the hindwings, excepting the dorsum. The underside of the wings is white from mid to base on the forewings and from outer postdiscal region to base on the hindwings; the remaining regions are a blotchy whitish-brown. The wings have white-outlined black markings in the outer postdiscal and subapical regions, a central brown band running vertically from costa to dorsum, and brown submargins. Females are orange on the upperside with a central yellow oblique band on the forewings. The region on the outer side of the central yellow band is dark brown. The underside of the wings is light brown with white-outlined black markings in the outer postdiscal and subapical regions, and a central brown band running vertically from costa to dorsum.
