Thamyra satyr

Wing span:

Identification: The wings are brown with a purplish ventral band in the outer postdiscal and submarginal regions. There are also ocelli in the outer postdiscal and subapical regions on the underside. The forewings have five brown ocelli and the hindwings have six ocelli (five brown and one black in the order of four brown, one black and one brown from subapex to tornus), each with a white pupil and yellowish-brown outline. The hindwings are scalloped at the termen. 

Variation: There is variation in the amount of purple on the underside, with some specimens having a purple tint outside of the postdiscal and submarginal band.
