Malachite

Wing span:

Identification: The wings are dark brown on the upperside with a central oblique lime green band on the forewings and two oblique lime green bands, one in the postbasal region and the other in the outer postdiscal region, on the hindwings. The forewings also have a submarginal lime green band. All of the bands are made of several spots, some spaced apart and others occurring closely together. The hindwings are serrated at the termen, with a tail-like projection near the tornus. The submarginal markings appear larger on the underside, particularly those on the hindwings, and white with dark brown outline. The spaces between the markings have bits of white and reddish-brown on the underside.
