Scalloped owl-butterfly

Wing span:

Identification: The wings are dark brown on the upperside with a central yellow band (visible on the underside) on the forewings, and a faint yellow submarginal band from the apex to mid-termen on the hindwings. The forewings have three small lunule-like subapical markings. As the common name suggests, the wings have scalloped edges, especially the hindwings. The underside of the wings is a blotchy brown. The forewings have a black subapical ocellus with yellow and dark brown outlines. The hindwings have two brown ocelli, one at mid-costa and one above the tornus, each with a white crescent and black and brown outlines.
