Lowland owl-butterfly

Wing span:

Identification: The wings are dark brown on the upperside with an orange band (visible on the underside) from mid-costa to tornus on the forewings, and an orange submarginal and outer postdiscal band on the hindwings. The forewings have three small subapical markings. The underside of the wings is a blotchy brown. The forewings have a black subapical ocellus with yellow and dark brown outlines. The hindwings have two brown ocelli, one at mid-costa and one above the tornus, each with a white crescent and black outline. The ocellus above the tornus has additional yellow and dark brown outlines.
