Split-banded owl-butterfly

Wing span:

Identification: The wings are dark brown on the upperside with an orange y-shaped band on the forewings and an orange submarginal band on the hindwings. The forewings have three small subapical lunule-like markings. The underside of the wings is a blotchy brown. The forewings have a black subapical ocellus with a yellow and dark brown outlines. The hindwings have two brown ocelli, one (larger) at mid-costa and one above the tornus, each with a black outline. The mid-costa ocellus also has a white crescent, while the ocellus above the tornus has an additional thick brown outline followed by a black outline.
