Wing span:

Identification: The wings are dark brown with a yellow band on the upper postdiscal region of the forewings. The region on the inner side of the band is red, mostly in the discal region, with the red extending to the base via a thin line below the costa. The hindwings are red excepting the dark brown margins and the patch at and above the tornus. 

Variation: There is variation in the amount of red on the hindwings and at the base of the forewings.
