Mangrove buckeye

Wing span:

Identification: The wings are brown on the upperside with two black ocelli in the submarginal and outer postdiscal regions, each with an iridescent bluish-purple pupil and a thick yellowish-brown outline followed by a thin dark brown outline. There is an orange line on the outer side of the ocelli, followed by two wavy dark brown lines, all of which extend from apex to tornus. The orange submarginal band on the forewings appears x-shaped, the lower half of the 'x' almost completely surrounding the ocellus closer to the tornus. The forewings have two short orange bands, each with a dark brown outline, below the costa near the base. The underside of the wings is brown, with an additional orange marking near the costal orange bands on the forewings. The hindwings have three additional ocelli on the underside, adjacent to (in a row with) the two that appear on the upperside.
