Wing span:

Identification: The wings are dark brown on the upperside with an iridescent blue tint from the outer postdiscal region to base of the forewings, and all the way to the submargins of the hindwings (excepting the costa and dorsum). The forewings have five white spots, three in the outer postdiscal region and two in the subapical region. The underside of the wings has a blotchy appearance with a mix of dark brown, light brown, white and mauve. The centre of the forewings is dark brown. The apex and subapex are whitish with a mauve tint, four dark brown apical markings and two subapical ocelli (each being dark brown with a yellowish-brown outline). The underside of the hindwings is brown with a mauve tint and dark brown markings. The hindwings has a postdiscal band (with a dark brown wavy outline) containing a double black ocellus near the apex and two black ocelli near the tornus - each with a dark brown outline. Each ocellus has a whitish pupil. There are four dark brown postbasal markings. The body is dark brown on the upperside and light brown on the underside.

Variation: There is variation in the amount of iridescent blue on the upperside of the wings, as well as the amount of mauve tint on the underside of the hindswings and at the apex and subapex of the forewings.
