Wing span:

Identification: The wings are black on the upperside, with the forewings being bright iridescent blue from the base to the discal region and, moving downward to the dorsum, all the way to the submarginal region. The underside of the wings has a mix of several colors including dark brown, light brown, white and bluish-mauve. The dorsum, cell above the dorsum and the base of the forewings are plain brown. The postbasal to outer postdiscal regions of the forewings are dark brown with a few white markings. The apex and subapex of the forewings are white, with four dark brown apical markings and two black subapical ocelli. The upper ocellus (closer to the costa) has a white spot in the centre. The hindwings is entirely bluish-mauve on the underside with dark brown markings. Each has a postdiscal band (with dark brown wavy outlines) containing two double dark brown ocelli, each with a light blue iris and dark brown outline. The ocellus closest to the apex has a whitish pupil. The postbasal region has two dark brown markings. The body is dark brown on the upperside and light brown on the underside.

Variation: There is variation in the amount of bluish-mauve on the underside of the wings, with this colour being entirely absent in some specimens.
