Identification: This species is sexually dimorphic. The wings of females are dark brown on the upperside with distinct yellow markings. The forewings have two broken parallel lines, one running from base to apex and the other from dorsum to mid-termen. The hindwings also have two broken parallel lines, both running from costa to dorsum. Both fore- and hindwings have a yellow submarginal line. The forewings have a red patch at the margin below the apex and the hindwings have a red patch at the tornus. The body is also dark brown on the upperside. The thorax has a yellow marking consistent with the line that goes from the base to the apex on the forewings, and the abdomen has yellow horizontal stripes. The wings of males are dark brown on the upperside with a broad orangish-red band running centrally from mid to dorsum on the forewings, and postbasally from mid to the cell above the dorsum on the hindwings. Females have a blotchy grayish-brown appearance on the underside of the wings, except for the middle of the forewings which is dark brown with creamish-white markings. The hindwings have four small central black spots, occurring where the outer yellow line is on the upperside. The body is creamish-white on the underside. Males are dark brown on the underside, except from mid to dorsum which is goldish-brown with black markings. The apex to subapex region of the forewings has a purplish-grey blotchy appearance. The body of males is dark brown on the upperside and creamish-white on the underside.
