Oileus owl-butterfly

Wing span:

Identification: The wings are dark brown on the upperside with a thin yellowish and dark brown band running from subapex to tornus of the forewings. The inner side of the band is a slightly lighter shade of brown. The hindwings have an iridescent blue tint from mid to base, excepting the dorsum, costal margin and two cells below the costal margin. The underside of the wings is a marbled brown, with the band appearing creamish-brown. The termenal submargin region of the forewings has two wavy lines and is yellowish-brown in colour instead of a marbled brown. The forewings have a subapical black ocellus with a partial bluish-white crescent and a yellowish-brown outline. The hindwings have two ocelli, one located at the postbasal region and one located almost centrally. The postbasal ocellus is brown and has a small whitiish partial crescent and a black outline. The other larger ocellus is black and has a white crescent, with a little bit of blue on the inner side, and a yellowish outline followed by dark brown then black outlines.
