Three-toned Prepona

Wing span:

Identification: The wings are dark brown on the upperside with a central iridescent greenish-blue band running from just below the costa to the dorsum on the forewings and to just above the tornus on the hindwings. The upper part of the band on forewings is thinner and curved. The hindwings have a whitish patch at the costa. The underside of the wings has three different shades of brown, with the discal to basal regions being light brown, the postdiscal region being dark brown, and the submarginal and marginal regions being brown. The light brown region of the wings has black markings. The dorsum and cell above the dorsum of the forewings has bits of light brown in the dark brown postdiscal region. The hindwings have six small brown submarginal spots running from the apex to tornus, a small black-outlined tornal double ocellus, and a black-crowned light brown spot and an adjacent black spot near the apex. The body is dark brown on the upperside and light brown on the underside, and the proboscis is red.
