Red peacock

Wing span:

Identification: The wings are dark brown on the upperside with a broad central red band from mid to dorsum on the forewings and from costa to above the tornus on the hindwings. The forewings have two short red strips above the central band, nine white markings on the outer side of the band, and three white subapical markings. The hindwings have dark brown and white submarginal lunules. The white lunules on the hindwings change at mid-termen to an orangish-red colour. The region between the white markings and central band has a purplish tint. The red markings on the upperside of the wings appear dull and orange in females. The underside of the wings is brown with the white spots being visible and the red/orange markings being slightly visible. The forewings have a dark brown spot near the tornus and the hindwings have a dark brown spot with orangish outline below the apex on the inner side of the lunules.
