Marsyas hairstreak

Wing span:

Identification: The wings are iridescent sky-blue on the upperside with dark brown costal submargin, apex, subapex and termenal submargin on the forewings, and white dorsal submargin, dark brown costal submargin and dark brown termenal margin on the hindwings. There are two black spots and two tail-like projections near the tornus of the hindwings. The underside of the wings is creamish-white with a purplish tint, and dotted with black spots and short lines, giving a speckled appearance. Males have a greenish tint on the underside from mid to dorsum of the forewings; this appears light brown in females. Also, the area around the tornus of the hindwings has a greenish tint in both males and females. The hindwings have two white-crowned black tornal ocelli on the underside.
