Whirlabout

Wing span:

Identification: This species is sexually dimorphic. In males, the wings are brown on the upperside and orange on the underside, with orange-brown fringe. The forewings have a orange subapical band that extends to the dorsum. The costa on the forewings is orange and the dorsum is brown on the underside.  The upperside of the forewings has a discal black patch, on the inner side of the subapical band. The hindwings have a central orange patch on the upperside. The underside of the hindwings has small discal and postdiscal brown spots. In females, the wings are dark brown on the upperside and light brown on the underside, with light brown fringe. The forewings have two central light brown spots, one orange-brown spot below the central spots (just above the dorsum), and two subapical light brown spots. The underside of the hindwings have a central light brown band. The body is brown on the upperside and light brown on the underside in both males and females.
