Yellow-edged ruby-eye

Wing span:

Identification: The wings are dark brown with yellowish-white fringe. The forewings have a central oblique white band; there is an extra piece on the underside of this band which is found in the costa and is yellow. The apex of the hindwings is white on the upperside. On the underside, the hindwings have broad yellow edges at the apex and termen. The underside of the hindwings has a purplish-blue tint. The body is dark brown on the upper- and undersides, except the lower part of the abdomen on the underside which is yellow. 

Variation: There is variation in the amount of purplish-blue tint on the underside of the wings.
