Wing span: 5.1–6.4 cm (Lotts & Naberhaus, 2017)

Identification: The wings are dark brown with faint black bands. The lower tip (tornus) of the hindwings has wide yellow edging on the upper- and undersides (Lotts & Naberhaus, 2017).

Variation: The intensity of the black bands on the upperside and underside of wings vary across subspecies and specimens.

Behaviour: Inactive adults tend to rest on the upperside and sometimes underside of leaves. Caterpillars feed in groups but each makes an individual leaf shelter (Lotts & Naberhaus, 2017).

Habitat:

Larval food plant: Vines in the pea family, Fabaceae (Lotts & Naberhaus, 2017), such as Phaseolus lunatus, Canavalia oxyphylla and Stizolobium pruriens (Warren et al., 2013)

Adult food: Bird droppings, dung or flower nectar (Lotts & Naberhaus, 2017) of species such as Ageratum and Sphagneticola
