Identification: This species is sexually dimorphic. The wings of females are dark brown on the upperside with distinct yellow markings. The forewings have two broken parallel lines, one running from base to apex and the other from dorsum to mid-termen. The hindwings also have two broken parallel lines, both running from costa to dorsum. The hindwings have a red patch at the tornus. The wings of males are dark brown on the upperside with a broad orangish-red band running centrally from mid to dorsum on the forewings, and postbasally from mid to the cell above the dorsum on the hindwings. Females have a blotchy brown and white appearance on the underside of the hindwings, while the forewings are dark brown with white markings (except along the costa and dorsum which also have a blotchy appearance). The hindwings have four small central black spots in white squarish markings. Males are mauvish-brown on the underside, except from mid to dorsum which is goldish-brown with dark brown markings. The body of both males and females are dark brown on the upperside, but the undersides are white in females and light brown in males.
